Privacy Policy

NJDMV Date is an independent appointment-opening viewer and alert service operated by Darren Gruber in New Jersey, United States. It is not affiliated with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission. It never books, holds or cancels an appointment.

What this policy covers

This policy covers njdmv.date, the NJ DMV iPhone and iPad app, the Android app, and the appointment alert service. The official NJ MVC booking portal and other linked services have their own privacy practices.

Information used by each product

Website

The website stores your chosen location or ZIP code, distance, recent services and display preferences in your browser. That information stays in that browser. The site requests public availability snapshots from our service; our hosting provider necessarily processes connection data such as your IP address to deliver and protect the service. Cloudflare Workers logs used for security and diagnosis are retained for no more than 7 days under the provider’s current product limits.

Android app

The Android app can use a location you enter or, only after you ask, your current approximate or precise location to sort nearby offices. That location and your preferences remain on your device. Requests for public availability still carry ordinary connection data to Cloudflare as described above. The Android app currently has no account or alert service.

Apple app and appointment watches

Browsing works without an account and keeps your browsing location on your device. If you create an Appointment Watch, the alert service stores:

• the identifier provided by Sign in with Apple; the service does not request your name or email address;
• your watch choices, including service, date window, selected offices, or a location rounded to about 100 metres and a radius;
• an Apple push token or Live Activity token for your device;
• an encrypted Apple authorization credential, hashed session tokens, and acceptance of the current Terms.

Location, identifiers, device tokens and watch choices are linked to your account only to provide watches, synchronization, notifications, Live Activities, security and account deletion. They are not used for tracking across other companies’ apps or websites.

Support correspondence

If you email for support or a privacy request, the email address, message content and related replies you choose to provide are processed through Gmail and used only to answer the request, protect the service, and document privacy requests when necessary. Do not send passwords, push tokens, exact saved locations or identity documents.

What we do not do

We do not sell personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, run advertising, or use third-party analytics SDKs. We do not use your information to determine eligibility for government services.

Retention and deletion

• Browser and Android preferences remain until you clear them or remove the app.
• Apple sessions expire after 30 days. Expired sessions are deleted automatically.
• Inactive push-device registrations are deleted after 30 days.
• Live Activity delivery records expire within 8 hours.
• Alert and polling queue messages, including dead-letter messages, expire within 4 days under the current provider defaults (and within 24 hours on a Cloudflare Free plan).
• Your account, watches and active device registrations remain until you delete the account.
• Support correspondence is deleted within 12 months after the request is resolved, or sooner on request unless it must be retained for security, abuse prevention or a legal obligation.

Signing out removes this device’s alert registration but leaves the account and watches saved. In the Apple app, open Watches → Account → Delete Account. Deletion removes the live account and its watches, sessions, device registrations and alert history, and disconnects Sign in with Apple. Cloudflare D1 recovery history may retain an encrypted recoverable copy for up to 30 days and is not used for ordinary product operation. If D1 recovery is used, private account rows must be purged before alert service resumes unless every deletion can be independently reconciled. Public appointment availability is not tied to an account.

Service providers and transfers

Cloudflare hosts the website, API, database, queues and public snapshots. Apple provides Sign in with Apple, push notifications, Live Activities and App Store distribution. Google provides Play distribution and Gmail processing for support correspondence. These providers process data under their own terms and security controls. Processing may occur in the United States and other places where those providers operate.

Security

We use encrypted transport, hashed session tokens, encryption for the Apple revocation credential, least-purpose collection, and automated deletion. No system can promise absolute security. The incident process is documented for maintainers and includes containment, impact assessment, required notification and recovery.

Children

The service is not directed to children under 13. A child under 13 should not create an alert account or submit a saved watch location.

Your choices and questions

You can browse without an account, use a ZIP code instead of current location, pause or delete individual watches, and delete the account in the app. Clear website preferences with Clear Saved Site Data in the home-page footer. On iPhone or iPad, withdraw location or notification permission in Settings → Apps → NJ DMV → Location or Notifications. On Android, use Settings → Apps → NJ DMV → Permissions → Location. Denying location does not prevent ZIP-code browsing.

For a privacy, access, correction or account-deletion assistance request, email dgruber@gmail.com. The account API does not request your name or email, so you may need to sign in on a compatible Apple device to prove control of the account. Emailing support does disclose your email address and message to the operator and Gmail as described above. Do not email an Apple password, push token, exact saved location or identity document. General non-private questions can use the public project support form.

If this policy changes materially, its effective date and version will change. Where required, the app will ask for fresh agreement before collecting additional account data.
